Photographed upon the introduction of his first photo book at Taschen publishing house, Cologne.

The building had just been bought by the publisher Benedikt Taschen, and the walls were not yet painted. That's where the interesting background comes from. I asked Karl Lagerfed to pose for me, so he positioned himself in front of some of his favourite pictures. That caused about 2 dozen

other photographers who were present to follow us and click and flash - and as fast as they appeared they went back to the buffet next door. Karl Lagerfeld smiled at me: "Well, there went your picture." "How about another one?" I replied and moved him in front of the empty old wall.
